Cash in the Attic
Dons fan Debbie has been raising money for WAWF after unearthing a swathe of collectibles in her loft
When Dons fan Debbie Buck decided to clear out her loft at home she came across a string of vintage AFCW T-shirts, signed shirts, memorabilia and collectibles. But rather than pack them away again, she decided to put them to work for the club – listing them for sale online and pledging all proceeds to the fan-led We Are Wimbledon Fund, which is raising money for the men’s first team playing budget.
Among the listed items were a goalkeeper shirt signed by a trio of AFCW glovesmen, Andy Little, Danny Wheeler and Josh Lennie, and an early AFCW away shirt signed by former striker Jamie Angell.
Vintage T-shirts included the now-rare ‘Club Killer’ and ‘Back To Plough Lane’ numbers alongside several other early AFCW-era designs.
Debbie said: ‘Those shirts all bring back many happy memories of supporting Wimbledon over the years and the early days of AFC Wimbledon in particular, but it felt like a shame to have them stored away when someone else could be enjoying them – and if we could support the club at the same time by raising a few pounds it felt like a great opportunity.’
With the sale concluded, Debbie’s shirt sales have raised a total of more than £630 for WAWF and, who knows, that might just help Craig and Johnnie sign the next Marcus Browne come January.
WAWF volunteer Graham Stacey added: ‘Everyone at WAWF would like to extend a huge thank you to Debbie for her generosity here – what a collection!
‘Our fans never cease to amaze – I think all fans probably do their best for their club but our fans really do go beyond that, whether it’s giving their time or raising funds to help the club be the best it can be.
‘
Thank you to Debbie and to everyone who joined in the bidding, and we hope you enjoy your fantastic shirts!’
WAWF has raised more than £16,725 so far this season – you can follow the campaign on social media at Bluesky @wearewimbledon.bsky.social, X @WeAreWimbledon, Facebook @WeAreWimbledon, Instagram @wearewimbledon or TikTok @WeAreWimbledonFund.
